What to Pack for a Motorcycle Tour: Essential Gear, Clothing & Travel Tips

In one trip, riders can experience warm lowlands, cold mountain passes, dusty roads, bright sun, and high-altitude towns. Packing well means greater comfort, more confidence, and a better overall experience.

1. Riding Gear

Bring protective gear you already feel comfortable wearing.

Recommended:

• Helmet (full-face or adventure style)
• Armoured riding jacket
• Riding trousers or protective layers
• Gloves (ideally two pairs, for warm and cold weather)
• Sturdy riding boots

2. Clothing for Changing Temperatures

Bolivia’s climate can shift quickly, especially when climbing into higher elevations.

Pack layers:

• Lightweight t-shirts
• Fleece or mid-layer
• Waterproof outer layer
• Warm base layer
• Comfortable evening clothes

Layering is far better than one heavy jacket.

3. Sun & Weather Protection

The sun can feel intense, particularly at altitude.

Bring:

• Sunglasses
• High SPF sunscreen
• Lip balm
• Neck buff / face covering
• Lightweight rain layer

Don’t forget:

• Chargers / adapters
• Medication
• Reusable water bottle

5. Altitude Preparation

Some parts of Bolivia sit at significant elevation, including La Paz, Uyuni, Potosí and Sucre.

We recommend:

• discussing altitude medication with your doctor
• staying hydrated
• taking it easy on arrival
• avoiding overexertion early on
